Fioricet acetaminophen caffeine capsules
How to use Fioricet?
This combination medication is used to treat headaches due to tension or stress. It consists of Acetaminophen which helps to decrease a headache. Caffeine helps to increase the effects of acetaminophen and Butalbital is a sedative that helps to decrease anxiety causing sleepiness and relaxation.
This medication may cause withdrawal reactions if it has been used regularly for a prolonged period of time or in high doses. In these cases, withdrawal symptoms (such as nausea/vomiting, mental/mood changes, seizures) might occur if you suddenly stop taking this medication. To prevent the withdrawal reactions, your doctor may suggest reducing your Fioricet dosage gradually. Report if you see any withdrawal reactions without delay.
Though it helps many people, this medication may be addictive. This risk is even higher if you have a substance use disorder (such as overuse of or addiction to drugs/alcohol). You should take this medication exactly as prescribed to avoid the risk of addiction. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist for exact details. Do remember that your doctor had prescribed this medication because he or she judged that the benefit to you was greater than the risk. Moreover, most people using this medication do not have any serious side effects.
Fioricet interactions with other drugs may change how your medications (drugs) work or increase your risk for serious side effects. Always keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Never start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's consent.
Side effects
some of the Fioricet side effects that are usually noticed are nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, shaking (tremor), shortness of breath, abdominal pain, constipation, increased urination, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, or trouble sleeping etc. If any of these effects persist or become worse, then immediately tell your doctor or the pharmacist.
Also inform your doctor right away if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur, like fainting, seizures, mental/mood changes or fast/irregular heartbeat.
